Teachers have control over what they display on their classroom walls. Displays can have a valuable impact on students by both further developing and celebrating their learning.
What is the purpose of creating displays in the classroom? Below are four important reasons, you may even be able to add to the list:
- To celebrate student work
- To stimulate students
- To be a useful resource for student learning
- To extend student learning.
Even knowing the above I have to confess, creative wall displays were never my strongest point. I decided I wanted to do something about it. A really useful resource I discovered for further developing my classroom displays is Publishing And Display Handbook by Sheena Cameron. It provided me with guidelines for improving my classroom environment and ideas for publishing and displaying student work (picture above right). I found it a worthwhile read for teachers like me looking for new ideas for their classroom displays.
