Will the referee give me white lights for this lift? I hope so.

Will the referee give me white lights for this lift? I hope so.

Outside of school, one of my interests is powerlifting, helping me keep fit. During the weekend I competed in the New Zealand Equipped Powerlifting Championships held in Wellington. I managed to finish first in my weight category and added another gold medal and national title to the one I won in July. My daughter was pleased again as she’s added it to her jewellery-box as her newest necklace. Within powerlifting, I also set up and coach the Kapiti Powerlifting Club, who train out of 318 Fitness in Paraparaumu. I’m an international referee, having officiated around the world. I’ve represented both New Zealand and Great Britain. Other members of the Kapiti Powerlifting Club had a successful championships too. Altogether we earned four golds, one silver and a bronze from a team of six – an excellent return on a lot of hard work! My next competition is the New Zealand Bench Press and New Zealand record breakers championship in Dunedin during the next school holidays.
